Settling Into Life in Hungary -- September Newsletter
Home Base
The Lord provided me with an apartment quickly! In Hungary, renting an apartment resembles renting/buying a house in the US. Each apartment for rent has its own landlord, instead of a whole complex being owned by one company. This makes finding an apartment quickly a little tricky. In the past, when you see an apartment you like, the landlord often does not respond or it has already been taken. For most people, it can take weeks to find an apartment.
It was through God's kindness that this wasn't the case for me. I was able to find my apartment within the first week that I arrived in Budapest. This was the second apartment I went to look at. When I had decided on this apartment, the landlord sent over the lease the same day and I was able to pick up the keys two days later. God was so kind in providing this apartment quickly.
A major blessing with this apartment was that it came fully furnished. This allowed me to focus on the little details to make it feel like home. I have really enjoyed setting up my new apartment. I look forward to using the blessings God has placed in the housing process to open my home to fellowship with those around me.
Office Life
Working in an office brings a new sense of community. As someone who has never worked in an office environment, this has been an exciting new experience. In the past, working in a classroom could sometimes feel like a separate world from my coworkers. It has been nice though, in the office, to have the sense of community that comes with all working in the same room. Even when we all have our headphones in, and are working on our own things, something is encouraging about having someone else there to keep me accountable for my to-do list. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that there are a plethora of ice cream shops downstairs where you can take a quick break sometimes.
Coffee Central
Budapest is a city full of cafés. No matter what time of day, the cafés are always bustling with conversations and people working. It has been nice to see this. A little glimpse back to my life in Springfield that also felt like coffee central. When I want a change of scenery to work in, there is no shortage of places to choose from. I can’t wait until I find “my spot” and start making connections with the employees and other consistent patrons.
