Sweet Moments-- June Newsletter
"Again Jesus spoke to them saying 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.' " John 8:12
June was such a sweet month full of learning, teaching, and meeting with new supporters. I have absolutely loved being able to connect with others. Every time I have had the opportunity to experience the character of God this month, it has given me a renewed view of who He is and how He provides for our needs in all of the big and small ways.
At the beginning of this month, I had the opportunity to lead a group of kindergarteners at my church’s Vacation Bible School. I had a group of 12 kids (11 of whom were boys lol). It was one of the sweetest weeks getting to teach them about Jesus, but also getting to watch them teach each other about Jesus too!
The theme for our VBS was “Shine Jesus’ Light.” We had so many fun stations to take the kids. We learned about missions and how people get to go overseas and shine Jesus’s light for those who have never heard the Gospel, we made crafts, played games, had some yummy food, and learned Bible lessons, but I think my favorite part of each night was when each group went up to the classroom to discuss what we learned.
On the second night, we learned the story about Jesus and Zacchaeus from Luke 19:1-9. This story shows Jesus accepting Zacchaeus, not because of what he has done, but because of who Jesus is. As Jesus was entering the city, He went out of His way to show love to Zacchaeus even though Zacchaeus was despised by many because of his job.
After doing our Bible lesson, we all went to our classrooms for discussion. Each leader had a set of questions to ask our kiddos. One of the questions asked how we could apply this story to the way we treat others, especially the ones we might not agree with. Without hesitation, one of the boys in my group stood up and said, “Even when people are mean to us we still need to love them like Jesus loves us.” It was such a sweet moment being able to see them understand what the Gospel means and lead their peers at such a young age.
